Introduction
Growing great cannabis is a journey that starts with a seed and ends with high-quality pre-rolls, live resin, and rosin. At Glass Meadows, our process is rooted in expertise and guided by a passion for quality. In this post, we’ll walk you through each stage of the plant’s life, sharing how we grow, harvest, and prepare our cannabis products.
Starting with Seeds: The First Step
Every cannabis plant starts its life as a seed. At Glass Meadows, we use high-quality seeds with strong genetics to ensure healthy growth.
Sprouting the Seed: Seeds are placed in a warm, damp environment until they sprout. When a small root appears, we plant the seedling in soil or a special growing medium.
Seedling Stage: The young plant begins to grow its first leaves. At this point, it needs just the right amount of light, water, and care to develop into a strong plant.
Did You Know? Seedlings are very sensitive and need a lot of attention in their first few weeks of growth!
2. Clones and Mother Plants: Reproducing the Best
Instead of relying solely on seeds, we also use clones to grow our cannabis plants. Cloning helps us maintain the best qualities of our strains.
Mother Plants: We select the healthiest plants to be mother plants, which provide the genetic material for our clones.
Cloning: Small cuttings are taken from the mother plants and rooted to grow into new plants. Clones are exact copies of their mothers, ensuring consistent quality and characteristics in every plant.
Why We Use Clones: Clones allow us to produce plants with predictable traits, making sure every harvest meets our high standards.
3. Vegetative Stage: Growing Big and Strong
The vegetative stage is when the plant focuses on growing leaves, stems, and branches. At Glass Meadows, our plants grow in a greenhouse environment, benefiting from natural sunlight and additional lighting.
Greenhouse Advantage: Our greenhouse setup allows the plants to soak up natural sunlight, while supplemental lighting ensures they get enough light even on cloudy days.
Extended Light Cycle: We give the plants up to 18-24 hours of light per day to encourage rapid growth. The extra light helps the plants grow big and strong, preparing them for the next phase.
Nutrient Feeding and Pruning: We feed the plants with a nutrient-rich solution and carefully trim them to encourage airflow and future bud development.
Fun Fact: In a greenhouse, we get the best of both worlds—natural sunlight and added lighting, which helps us grow strong, healthy plants.
4. Flowering Stage: Buds Begin to Bloom
When the plants are big and healthy, it’s time for the flowering stage. This is when the cannabis plants start producing buds, which we will later use for pre-rolls, live resin, and rosin.
Adjusting the Light Cycle: In our greenhouse, we control the light cycle to mimic shorter fall days, giving the plants 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. This change signals the plants to start flowering.
Bud Formation: The plants begin to grow sticky, resin-covered buds that are rich in cannabinoids like THC and CBD. We closely monitor the temperature and humidity to protect the buds and enhance their natural flavors.
Special Care for Different Products: Some of our harvest is dried and ground for pre-rolls, while the rest is fresh frozen right after harvest. Fresh freezing preserves the terpenes and cannabinoids, making it perfect for creating high-quality live resin and rosin.
Smells Amazing: As the buds develop, they release strong, sweet, and earthy aromas that are packed with terpenes.
5. Harvesting: Preparing for Our Products
At Glass Meadows, the harvest is the final step in our growing process, but it’s just the beginning of creating our high-quality cannabis products.
Perfect Timing: We carefully inspect the buds to determine the ideal time to harvest, looking for the right color and maturity in the trichomes.
Drying the Buds: After harvesting, we dry the buds in a controlled environment to preserve their potency and flavor.
Fresh Freezing for Extracts: Some of the freshly harvested buds are immediately frozen to lock in the terpenes and cannabinoids, making them perfect for our live resin and rosin products.
Quality Over Everything: Whether it’s dried for pre-rolls or frozen for extracts, we ensure each batch meets our high standards for flavor and consistency.
Conclusion: Our Commitment to Quality
At Glass Meadows, we take pride in every step of the growing process. By using a greenhouse, adding supplemental lighting, and focusing on quality from seed to harvest, we create cannabis products that deliver a superior experience.
